Summer Solstice, in the northern hemisphere, will reach its apex tonight at 7:42pm Pacific. Summer Solstice is always a time of celebration, usually with community. We are celebrating the “longest” day of the year, the sun showing himself for more hours than darkness. It marks the time of year when the days begin to get “shorter”, though for some of us we don’t notice that shift for a couple more months.
Soltices are turning points. We are shifting from the growing to the decline, or in the case of the Winter solstice from decline to growth. Summer solstice is our celebration of life, our mark of the entrance into the harvest season, a time of reaping all we have sowed.
However you choose to celebrate, or not, the solstice, it is a part of our natural cycle on this planet. Acknowledging it, marking it, is another way for us to slow down and embrace our connection to the greater world and workings and rhythms of the Universe. It is an opportunity to see how not alone we are, how interconnected we are, how we are all affected by the light of the days, the darkness of the nights, and each other.
Below are some resources for you to incorporate into your own practices and rituals if you like.
I have decided to begin utilizing the paywall again. I have a lot of inner conflict around paywalls in general, and the reality is, in our current society and culture they are an energetic exchange. Having a paid subscription not only puts a couple dollars in my bank account to pay my bills, it also encourages me emotionally and mentally to continue sharing my work. In the future any new writing and resources will be for paid subscribers only. This will include the resources I provide in the Witchy Sh!t series, as well as any other posts in which I provide reflection questions and or somatic exercises. If you benefit from these resources and cannot afford the $7 per month subscription fee, please contact me directly and we can work something out.
