Shifting the ways we look at our relationships, unraveling the ways we’ve been “programmed” to believe how relationships should work, look, be, and then exploring and considering what we actually want, need, desire in our relationships can be intense work. It is the work of going against the grain, against the culture. It is the work of coming home to our Self, to our own yearnings and honoring what actually feels good and right to us, instead of what we’ve been told should feel good and right.

Most of us have been raised in a hetero-mono-normative world - where a “real” relationship is romantic, consists of a man and woman, and is monogamous. This is what we were raised to be the default, base line. From there many of us were also raised on the fairy tales produced by Hollywood of what a “good man” and “good woman” look like, how they treat each other, and therefore what a “good relationship” is supposed to look like.
