There are stories we tell ourselves about who we are. How we work. What we want.
Sometimes the stories are true. Sometimes the stories were once true but no longer are.
Sometimes the stories were never true and were just what we needed to tell ourselves to get through life.
Regardless of the kind of story, true, false, or once true but now false, we get to rewrite it.
We get to change the stories we tell ourselves, about ourselves. We get to change the stories we tell others about who we are. We get to change our wants and needs, to claim and disclaim them as is good for us in this moment.
I had a huge aha about a story I’d been telling myself for decades about how I get to emotional intimacy and who I can be emotionally intimate with.
It was a false story. A story that I had to tell myself to hide the true story that would have made it nearly impossible to be in the world.
