SCH 07 :: Boundaries, holidays, & expectations
This week, I invite us to explore our boundaries and expectations.
The holiday season is filled with expectations. We may have our own memories from childhood that are distorted with time, that have perhaps taken on a fairy tale quality. We also all live in a culture that tells us how we are supposed to feel this time of year (joyous, happy, it is the most wonderful time of the year after all) as well as what all we are supposed to do (and there is so very much doing).
We have all internalized the shoulds that have been fed to us about this time of year. This internalization often leaves us feeling bad or ashamed because we aren't living up to the expectations of this time of year - neither our own or that of others.
A truth is this time of year, in our not so distant past, was meant to be a time of quiet reflection, particularly in the northern hemisphere where we see less and less of the light of the sun.
