As we move through Spring in the northern hemisphere, we may find ourselves looking around our homes and thinking about all the things it is time to let go of. I know for me there is one room in the house that stores All The Things I don’t really know what to do with, but also am not quite ready to let go of either. Those objects live in a limbo space of not being used, and while not really needed or wanted, also not being given away to someone(s) who would use or who need and want them.
Many of us have relationships that are also like this. Either aspects of our relationship with our Self or with others. We often hold on to parts of ourselves, or relationships with others, that no longer serve us well. We hold onto narratives, we hold onto behaviors, we hold onto people, in part because change feels too scary, in part because maybe we don’t know how to let go, in part because the devil we know feels safe.
