Today marks the Summer Solstice in the northern hemisphere. It the day of year that marks the turning point between having more and more daylight hours (starting at the Winter Solstice) and slowly losing daylight, moving us through summer, into fall, and finally winter.
Ancestrally, today is a day of celebration, of coming together in community, of acknowledging all the sun gives us. Our ancient (and not so ancient) ancesters who acknowleded their own direct connection with the movement of the sun, moon, and planets. Our ancestors who acknowledged and venerated the symbiotic relationship of humans and the rest of nature. Our ancestors who were one with the land, the water, the air. Our ancestors who knew no individual could survive without community and that the community could not survive without all of its inviduals. Our ancestors who understood the power of story and myth and the symbology of the gods and goddesses who lived them.
