We are disconnected from pleasure, in part, because we are not only disconnected from ourselves but we are also disconnected from the present moment, the here and now.  We don't notice the ground beneath us.  We don't notice our surroundings.  We constantly have our to do lists running through our minds while we are trying to connect with others.  

We live in the future or in the past.  We stay in relationships that have become harmful or hurtful because we keep reminding ourselves of the good times.  We stay in jobs we hate because of the potential promotions and raises we've been "promised".  We rush through dinners, bedtimes, conversations because of all those other things we think we have to do.  

We don't allow ourselves to slow down.  To breathe in the now.  To connect to ourselves, our environment, our relationships.
