One of the reasons we are all so busy is so that we can feel a sense of order in our lives. We try to manage our inner chaos by controlling our outer lives, by filling each minute with meetings, appointments, to-do lists. We avoid liminal space like the plague.
If we slow down, we then become aware of our own inner chaos. That inner chaos can feel overwhelming. Literally, the sensations of this inner chaos can feel too much and because we have spent most of our lives avoiding these sensations feeling any small bit of it can be overwhelming.
Previously I invited us to let go of some parts of our to do lists, to set down some of the things that overfill our days so we can create space for more pleasure. I want to acknowledge today that this is not a simple task. There is a dissonance for us to explore and learn to sit with, a reckoning so to speak with that inner chaos we have worked so hard to avoid acknowledging, let alone feeling.
