Heartache.
It is probably safe for me to write that each and every one of us has experienced it at least once in our lives. Many of us have likely experienced it many times, in many different ways.
Heartache and heart break are each part of the human experience. We love, we lose what we love, we feel pain, we grieve. Grief is an intense emotion on its own, it can be overwhelming and all consuming in the early stages. It can make us vow to never love again, or never risk again, or never seek again (or never all the things again). In the moments of making those vows we wholly believe ourselves and have every intention of keeping them.
Here's a thing though: part of life, part of experiencing pleasure, is taking risks, and even taking risks with our hearts. It means being vulnerable. It means being open. It means knowing that eventually, all things come to an end, even the things we don't want to ever end.
Part of being able to experience pleasure is being able to experience grief.…
