Shifting old patterns and ways of being in the world doesn't happen overnight. First we need to recognize the behaviors. Then once recognized, we need to learn the precursors, what “triggers” or activates us to act in that way. We need to learn to come into our body so we can know what is happening within as we are activated, so we can slow down our reactions in the moments and eventually change the behavior.
But we can't do this by simply thinking we want to change something.
It takes time. Practice. Patience. Compassion.
Learning to feel our emotions and sensations, to stop avoiding pain and instead allowing ourselves to experience it and let it flow, is challenging.
