EW Shame :: Reclaiming our thoughts, rewriting our stories
At last we come back to the first gate. When we first began our journey and passed through this gate we set down the stories that run through our head, the voices of others, that no longer serve us.
Today, as we pass back through this gate and back into the world, I invite us all to reclaim those headpieces as our own, and to have our own stories of our own choosing be the ones that circle in our minds during times of stress, overwhelm, as well as calm, joy.
\I'm not big on "positive thinking." When we place all our eggs in any one basket it is doomed to fail. And the whole positive thinking movement seems to have the idea that if just think happy thoughts we'll immediately be happy.
They are wrong. However, there is something right also in this idea.
It is true that whatever thoughts we have and allow ourselves to have without counter-argument will create their own neuropathways in our brains, and the more we have those thoughts the deeper those neuropaths become and the harder it is to not have those thoughts.
And. Just having "positive" thoughts is not in and of itself going to make your life all shiny and happy. There is more to neuroplasticity than that.
We need to combine the changing of our thoughts with action, and frankly with dealing with our past pain and trauma. And I'm sure you can guess that what this means in my world, is that we need to come into our bodies, and process the traumas that live within us.
Here's a thing though, there is something to counter-acting the negative or shameful voices that float in our head. The more ways we approach creating those new neuropathways, the more we will be able to create them, deepen them, and change our lives.
So, I invite you over the next week to do an experiment.
