Choosing to break open
Sometimes we meet people who, at first sight, we know are going to break us open an in that we know knowing them will inevitably lead to both healing and heartache.
(Breaking open is different from being broken. Being broken by another person involves abuse, neglect, trauma bonding. This we need to walk away from. Breaking open is discovering and integrating those lost or buried pieces of our Self. This we can choose to experience or not.)
Sometimes we will convince ourselves that the pain of heartache isn't worth the ecstasy of breaking open. So we walk away, slowly or quickly, to avoid what we know or believe to be inevitable.
Sometimes though... sometimes we choose to stay. We choose the breaking open even knowing there will be tears and heartache and endings.
Maybe we choose to stay because that ecstasy of breaking open is addictive.
Maybe we choose to stay because even though we know in our bones the heartache is inevitable, we also know that nothing is written in stone.
