Being in the now, the unfolding, the unknown
Learning to exist in the liminal space that is life
We can find ourselves, at the beginning (or middle) of a story, trying to write the whole novel and definitively design its ending. We often don’t like to be in the slowness of organic unfolding, in the anticipation and not knowing. We humans often lean towards consistency (even at the cost of stagnation), predictability (even at the cost of boredom), promises and vows (that are only ever broken and lead to resentment, frustration, and ultimately heartbreak).
We want to know how the story ends, before it ever really has a chance to start.
I used to think this was all because of trauma. And, I do believe, trauma is part of the formula that makes us this way. And, more and more what I believe to be true is that we are this way because we are taught to be this way.
